In addition to making your face look older, DNA damage also increases the risk of various diseases.
“Chronically stress can cause a variety of conditions and disorders in humans, of a cosmetic nature, such as gray hair, to a life threatening disorders, such as malignant tumors,” said Professor Robert Lefkowitz of Duke University, North Carolina, United States.
Experimental published in the Nature Journal, was also expressed, in the future there may be drugs that can overcome the effects of this stress. “We believe this report is the first time proposed a specific mechanism by which the characteristics of chronic stress, adrenaline is increased, eventually can cause DNA damage that can be detected,” said Lefkowitz of Duke University, North Carolina, United States.
This study showed that chronic stress can lead to decrease levels of p53 protein (known by its role in preventing cancer). The research team is currently planning further research to understand whether physical reactions to stress also lead to DNA damage.
